Its probably one of the best vintage both the 2015 and 2013 of the last decade. The vintage 2018 was very cold in the winter with snow in December and February.
The snow and the low temperature is very important to can the vegetative rest and the sanification of the vineyards from anatagonystic agent. We had snow again in March (18-19) during the winter pruning work.
In the Spring we had a good amount of rain (april - may) and temperature normal for the Vulture season (with the typical important temperature ranges even over 10-12 ° in this period).
June , as often in Vulture, it is the month of important rains, which will serve as a water reserve for the summer, also thanks to the particoular volcanic soil that we have. The "pozzolana" is hygroscopic and with the different stratification , stock the water in the deep, and slowly releasing it during the summer months, allowing the vines, planted very narrow, not to go into water stress.
September is the real month of the maturation for Aglianico with the sart of veraison around in the middle month, to finish in later October. Hot temperature during the day (30° C max) and low in the night (14-16°).
Perfect harvest started the 23 Oct. and finished the 27 Oct.
VINIFICATION
The grapes, collected in small baskets are taken directly to the cellar for selection and removal from the vine. The whole grapes are then put into steel tanks for the alcoholic fermentation (maceration lasts the same amount of time as fermentation). Afterward the 'must' is 'drawn off' and the dregs are soft pressed. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barriques of 200 l. (50% new) for a total of 12 months.
Additional aging takes place in bottles for 12 more months before release.
TASTING NOTES
Intense ruby color with strong garnet reflections. Ample and complex perfume, decidedly mineral, fruity and ethereally youthful with clear spicy hints. Aroma provokes strong sensation of cherry, currant, rosemary, tobacco and cinnamon.
Has a dry, warm flavor, broad structure and persistent, aromatic and long finish. Wine of strong personality, representative of its territory and destined to have a great future.
SOIL
Volcanic layers: lava, lapilli, ash and layers of clay
